They say that children don’t come with a manual, and while that may be technically true, the heart behind all Gentle Giraffes’ postpartum doula services and basic newborn care is to be exactly that for you and your family – a “personal newborn manual.”
With most not being actual nurses, Newborn Care Specialists (NCS) are the cream of the crop when it comes to private, in-home newborn care and family support. The topic of newborn care is vast, spanning the period between pregnancy right through to a year post birth. A Newborn Care Specialist – some of whom on our staff are registered nurses – can guide you through this period and become an investment in the wellbeing of your entire family.
From the point that your baby is just a bump in your belly all the way through until some months after their delivery, the team at Gentle Giraffes is there for the theoretical to the practical and everything in-between. The process is a dynamic one, with challenges along the way, so we’ll stay flexible, meeting you where you’re at and catering our care to the needs of your specific family.

Before Baby
Since foreknowledge can lead to some measure of peace and security, take advantage of our “Mini Baby Boot Camp Classes;” which will help you know what to expect once baby arrives.
Where baby products are concerned, Gentle Giraffes can also help. Since the sheer number of baby products on the market can be overwhelming, let Gentle Giraffe help you sort it out by planning your registry or setting up your nursery.
In addition, our compassionate staff members are happy to consult with you about how to provide your baby with a calm and nurturing atmosphere which mimics the womb.
After Baby is Born
The days and weeks following baby’s birth, while wonderful, can feel chaotic and overwhelming. Even if you’re having your 2nd or 3rd, the dynamics change, and it’s a whole, new world.
Gentle Giraffes’ Newborn Care Specialists can help you sort it through with their assistance in 24-hour shifts or overnight care to allow you much needed time to rest. They can guide you in setting up healthy daytime and nighttime routines, as well as educate you concerning common issues involving digestion, reflux, sleeping, eating, and so much more. They’ll wash used bottles and pumps so you get even more rest as well as time to play and bond with your baby during the day.
If you have a vacation planned or you’d like to visit family or friends, NCSs are always ready to accommodate you. They’re your extra hands and can educate you on travel safety and what to bring so that you’re free to enjoy your time, knowing your newborn is in safe hands with someone you know and trust.
As Baby Grows
As baby grows and routines seem to stabilize, the need for troubleshooting in other areas may still arise.
Gentle Giraffes’ is there for you!
Many NCSs are experienced with babies teething, introducing solids, or the best methods to handle infants who’ve suddenly seemed to go from crawling to “moving and grooving.” Or.. they can also fill in when your regular nanny or day care are unavailable.
