Postpartum Doula Services
Postpartum Doulas (PPD) traditionally mother the mother and manage the household.
This can mean anything from sitting and supporting mom while she’s breastfeeding, to doing household chores, educating on new ways of time management, assisting at doctors’ appointments, making healthy meals, and the list goes on. PPDs can snuggle the baby while mom sleeps in or takes a nap. They can be the laundry fairy as well as the playmate for an older child, or they can be a shoulder to lean on or an ear to listen..
During the months when the family is adjusting to their new life, PPDs play an important role. From the emotional, to the practical, to the educational, we’re here for you and can tailor our services to your needs, both the ones that you know about in advance, and the ones which emerge as the newborn process dynamically unfolds. Breastfeeding support, meal prep, mother’s helper, infant feeding, education on mother-baby bonding or infant soothing, meal planning, errand running, you name it – it’s important to us that during such a precious time in your family’s life, you have the tools you need to succeed.
Whether you’re having your first child or adding to the family you already have, this is a critical time for your family. Our experienced and compassionate care providers know how to come alongside you to both educate and guide whatever your life situation and family size.
Peace of mind is the result.
Recovery Support
Having a baby is taxing not only physically and mentally, but emotionally as well.
Gentle Giraffe’s caring and compassionate team are there to ease your burden and help you get back on your feet again, leading you to the discovery that a “new normal” is a lot easier to reach with expert hands to guide you and cheer you along — especially when you may be feeling tired, sore, and a tad (or even a lot) overwhelmed. Let us help!

After Baby is Born
The days and weeks following baby’s birth, while wonderful, can feel chaotic and overwhelming. Even if you’re having your 2nd or 3rd, the dynamics change, and it’s a whole, new world.
Gentle Giraffes’ Newborn Care Specialists can help you sort it through with their assistance in 24-hour shifts or overnight care to allow you much needed time to rest. They can guide you in setting up healthy daytime and nighttime routines, as well as educate you concerning common issues involving digestion, reflux, sleeping, eating, and so much more. They’ll wash used bottles and pumps so you get even more rest as well as time to play and bond with your baby during the day.
If you have a vacation planned or you’d like to visit family or friends, NCSs are always ready to accommodate you. They’re your extra hands and can educate you on travel safety and what to bring so that you’re free to enjoy your time, knowing your newborn is in safe hands with someone you know and trust.
Meal Prep & More
And then…there are the practical matters and running of the household, as the need to eat, and to clean, and to stay on schedule only intensify with the addition of a baby to the household.
Gentle Giraffes can help with laundry, meal prep or planning, and running errands, not to mention, if need be, bringing mom and baby to their doctors’ appointments.
